ABSTRACT Latin American independence was more than a fortunate wartime outcome: it was a political and social conquest that had gained momentum since the arrival of the Spanish forces on the continent. The resistance of the native people of Abya Ayala merits the recognition of the present and future generations; however, this recognition should not allow us to forget the other important protagonists of the revolution for independence solely because they concern other social groups. The Liberator Simon Bolivar and the Great Marshal of Ayacucho defeated Spain and liberated half the continent; moreover, their lives were inseparably connected with Bolivia. The historical component of Social Sciences in the curriculum for the secondary level of the Ministry of Education must clearly reflect the contribution of those women and men in the construction of our Plurinational State and the freedom we, as Bolivians, are enjoying today.
