The research aims to explore the relationship between family factors (bond between members, parenting style, training, education policy, transmitted values) and substance use. The sample consisted on 1143 adolescents from San Luis, Argentina. Two instruments were used: an adaptation of the Integral Clinical Evaluation Form (Chilean Institute of Integrative Psychotherapy, 1995) and the Drug Dependence Identification Questionnaire  (Fantin, CIDD, 2004). The results indicate that male adolescents, compared with women have a higher problematic alcohol risk consumption. In relation to family factors, a inconsistent educational policy is linked to increased consumption of alcohol and teenagers who have expressed different values to those transmitted by their parents have higher scores on alcohol consumption. Teenagers who do not consume have better quality of relationship with the mother and a better perception of the mother figure that those who consume drug.
