VARGAS, Renzo. Abundance and population structure of Oxymycterus paramensis (Rodentia) in forest fragments in the Andes of Bolivia. Rev. Cien. Tec. In. [online]. 2019, vol.17, n.19, pp.23-44. ISSN 2225-8787.
Abstract Habitat fragmentation is one of the main threats to the conservation of species globally. Determining how species respond to fragmentation is important to define management and conservation strategies. Thus, the objective of this study is to determine the population ecology of Oxymycterus paramensis in forest fragments of Polylepis besseri in the Andes of Bolivia. During the months of March to May 2000, the abundance and population structure of O. paramensis was evaluated in two fragments ofP. besseri forest in the town of Sacha Loma, Mizque province, Cochabamba. The method of capture-mark-recapture was used for population parameters evaluation such as the abundance of individuals, density, survival, sex and age structure, reproduction, weight and biomass, which were compared between the subpopulations of both fragments. No differences were found in the density, in the average weight, in the proportion of sexes, nor in the proportion of ages, but there were significant differences in the survival rate between both fragments. Evidence suggests that O. paramensis is not affected by these levels of fragmentation.
