QUIROGA, Juan Carlos et al. Iconography of Villca in lithic stelae from the archaeological site of Tiwanaku. Rev. Cien. Tec. In. [online]. 2019, vol.17, n.20, pp.51-64. ISSN 2225-8787.
Abstract The lithic monuments of the archaeological site of Tiwanaku represent the main source of the iconographic systems of this culture. Various studies propose the relationship between the expanded states of consciousness and their iconographic representations, reaching to describe snuffing paraphernalia in the hands of the Tiwanaku lithic stelae. Through fieldwork carried out in Tiwanaku, the knowledge dialogue, iconographic analysis and ethnohistorical considerations, our Transdisciplinary Team proposes the presence of primary signs of Villca seeds (Anadenanthera colubrina) at the foot of Ponce, Fraile and Bennett Stelae. The presence of motifs describing the possible type and part of the plant to be used in the snuffing paraphernalia, suggests that there is a seed-snuffing paraphernalia-expanded states of consciousness relationship as part of the iconographic message from the Tiwanaku stelae. The intracultural contribution of Traditional Specialists was decisive in the entire Research process of the Transdisciplinary Team.
