Abstract Oral candidiasis can develop in children and adults, although in the oral cavity Candida albicans can be part of the commensal flora, but when the host does not have good oral hygiene or is immunosuppressed can lead to a candidiasis. The objective of this research was to evalúate the in vitro antifungal activity of the crude aqueous extract of Rosmarinus officinalis against C. albicans. The study was experimental, 60 experimental units were used, consisting of 6 different concentrations of the aqueous extract of R. officinalis and two strains of the species of C. albicans and 5 repetitions, the serial dilution method was determined the different concentrations, for the antifungal activity was used the well diffusion method on Mueller-Hinton agar. 2 g of dry residue of R. officinalis were obtained, concentrations were obtained 40, 20, 10, 5, 2.5 and 1.25 mg/mL respectively. When facing C. albicans to the aqueous crude extract, average haloes were obtained of 21.12 16.08, 9.22, 7.12 mm for the concentrations of 40, 20, 10, 5 mg/mL, however, for the other strain, average halos were obtained from and for the other strain 10.35, 8.43, 7.21 mm for the concentrations of 40, 20, 10 mg/mL respectively. It is concluded that the aqueous crude leaf extract of R. officinalis has an antifungal effect against C. albicans.
